MEANWHILE, IN AMERICA

Suspects Who Allegedly Threw Explosives Outside NYC Mayor Mamdani's Residence Indicted

  • On Tuesday, federal prosecutors indicted Pennsylvania residents Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, for an ISIS-inspired terror plot involving homemade bombs at Gracie Mansion on March 7.

  • Recordings revealed the pair planned to 'start terror,' with Balat telling Kayumi they calculated the devices could kill up to 60 people if the area was crowded.

  • U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said investigators 'have uncovered evidence revealing the alleged meticulous planning by the defendants,' including a notebook with detailed attack plans and a storage unit containing explosive residue.

  • The incident occurred when an anti-Islam protest and counter-protest drew more than 100 participants; Balat threw an ignited device toward the crowd before both men were quickly detained.

  • Both men are held without bail after telling investigators they were inspired by ISIS; Balat hoped to carry out an attack bigger than the Boston Marathon bombing, which resulted in 'only three deaths.

Russian government hackers broke into thousands of home routers to steal passwords — more than 23 US states and globally

  • Security researchers and government authorities (DOJ?) warned on Tuesday that the Russian state-linked hacking group APT28, also known as Fancy Bear, has hijacked thousands of home and small business routers globally.

  • The ongoing campaign uses compromised routers to redirect internet traffic to malicious servers, allowing the group to steal sensitive information such as user passwords and authentication tokens.

  • APT28 is widely identified as a unit of Russia's GRU intelligence agency and has a history of major cyber operations, including the 2016 Democratic National Committee breach and the 2022 attack on satellite provider Viasat.

NYT Names Adam Back as Likely Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto — TRYNA DOXX HIM! Adam Back (@adam3us) / Posts / XAdam Back - Wikipedia

  • On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, The New York Times published a year-long investigation identifying Blockstream CEO Adam Back as the most likely candidate for Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, citing stylometric analysis and archival research across mailing lists.

  • Back's candidacy centers on his 1997 invention of Hashcash, a proof-of-work system cited directly in Bitcoin's whitepaper, and his active role in the Cypherpunk movement proposing decentralized electronic cash between 1997 and 1999.

  • Linguist Florian Cafiero identified 67 shared hyphenation errors between Back and Satoshi, nearly double the next closest candidate, though computational analysis of 134,308 mailing-list posts from 620 suspects remained inconclusive.

  • Blockstream CEO Adam Back dismissed the investigation as 'confirmation bias' and denied being Satoshi; his identity could trigger mandatory disclosure of 1.1 million BTC worth roughly $118 billion under U.S. securities law.

  • Cryptographic proof remains absent, leaving the mystery unresolved; many in the Bitcoin community view Satoshi's anonymity as foundational to trustless network operations without a central human leader.

Judge Refuses to Block Sending Abortion Pill by Mail for Now, but Says FDA Must Finish Review

  • On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge David Joseph refused to block the mailing of mifepristone prescriptions, denying Louisiana's immediate request to halt the practice while the legal challenge proceeds.

  • Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed the lawsuit arguing that mail-order prescriptions undermine the state's abortion ban, one of 13 states that bar abortion at all stages of pregnancy.

  • One study found that by the end of 2024, one-fourth of abortions were accessed by telehealth—a fivefold increase in two years—making mifepristone central to post-Roe legal battles.

  • Murrill is pursuing criminal cases against two doctors in California and New York for mailing pills to Louisiana, though those states have not extradited the physicians to face charges.

  • Judge Joseph warned that his decision is not indefinite, ordering the Food and Drug Administration to update the court on its safety review within six months.

Man Who Co-Founded Mexican Drug Cartel with 'El Mencho' Pleads Guilty in US to Conspiracy Charge

  • Erick Valencia Salazar, 49, of Santa Clara, California, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine for U.S. importation as a co-founder of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

  • Valencia Salazar faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison for his role in the violent drug cartel.

  • The guilty plea marks a step forward in ongoing efforts by U.S. law enforcement to prosecute high-level figures tied to international drug trafficking networks.

Judge tosses PETA’s lawsuit against the American Kennel Club over dog breed health

  • On Monday, Judge David B. Cohen dismissed PETA's lawsuit against the American Kennel Club, ruling that a New York law governing state and local government decisions was misapplied to the private organization.

  • PETA had accused the American Kennel Club of promulgating unhealthy "standards" for Frenchies, Shar-peis, bulldogs, dachshunds, and pugs, seeking to force the club to stop using breed guidelines linked to serious health ailments.

  • Club President Gina DiNardo hailed the decision Tuesday, while PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk criticized the ruling and urged people to adopt shelter dogs instead of buying purebreds bred "custom-made for a look that causes pain."

  • Cohen ruled the case "must be dismissed" because PETA is not subject to the kennel club's authority, leaving PETA lawyers assessing any legal options following the dismissal.
