Incredible news out of D.C. that hardly anyone is reporting… (Jonathan Leaf on Substack) Murder rates have fallen across the country, but the decline in Washington, D.C. is startling. In 2024, it had 274 murders. This year, it’s on a pace for 42 murders. (It’s had just 12 so far.) That’s a decline of almost 85%. There have been as many deaths from traffic accidents in the nation’s capital as murders. The falloff corresponds to two factors. In 2022, district voters replaced a radical district attorney with one who was more serious about prosecuting crime, and the effects of that change are starting to be felt. Of more recent vintage was President Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops onto city streets. That also seems to have deterred violent felons from committing homicides.
Interestingly, The Washington Post, the city’s local newspaper, has not printed a single article about the subject since February 1st. The Post’s editors appear to have decided that it’s best not to inform their readers about a policy that might lead them to credit or be grateful to the Trump administration…
