JLP Show Notes | Mon. 9-25-23

Hake took decent notes from JLP… Being a mom, toughest job in the world? Big lie! … Great calls: Relationships… Do the Silent Prayer… Evil mothers story… Teens, Mexican and black, crashed into retired cop on his bike, killing him.

JLP Hr 1  One of the biggest lies: Being a mom is the toughest job in the world. Oprah and the Obamas say it, in old clips, SMH. [Alpha Jerky from BigClubUSA.com] Women complain on social media (TikTok) about being mothers.  //  Ali in Canada says he got in a fight with his wife with whom he has two kids. JLP gives him great advice! He’s Muslim, but does the Silent Prayer. GREAT CALL!

JLP Hr 2  Tate in GA dealing with conflict with his wife(?) (“significant other”), they’re in counseling, he gets feedback from women in his family maybe. There is nothing worth fighting for. Anyone who tells you to stay and fight is giving bad advice. He hasn’t forgiven his mother, he’s not praying, been in “serial monogamy.” No one has ever made a relationship work. It’s a bad idea, and it’s evil. What about “sunken cost”? I know it’s a fallacy… Wasted time: Time doesn’t exist. Do the Silent Prayer.  //

Dimitri in India says being a single mother is not easy. He starts bragging about his false life.  //  Pete in Alaska on the Biblical Question: What is real reality? This moment….  //  Joseph in PA (1st-timer) frustrated working toward a goal.  //  Beau in Michigan (1st-timer) says Jesse helped him. Stay with prayer…  //  Super Chats from Church and a few this morning…

JLP Hr 3  Mothers’ job is not hard: Mother killed her children to get back at her husband their father. Mexican guy driving and black guy taking video as they run into a bicyclist on purpose, killing the ex-cop riding his bike. The black young man’s mother talked about inaccuracies in the media.  //  Adam in OK

HAKE NEWS, Hr 1 | Mon. 9-25-23

  • It’s Yom Kippur: “Have an easy fast!”  //  Govt shutdown in 6 days (Sun, Oct 1st) — fingers crossed!  //  WH giving “free Covid tests” starting today  //  TSwift hanging with Travis Kelce’s fam at Chiefs game  //  Usher doing the Super Bowl halftime Feb 11th  //

Happy Yom Kippur

ICYMI: (CNN Mon. 9/25/23) Jewish communities around the world are observing Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Most observant Jews will fast until sunset today, abstaining from food and water, as they focus on repentance and worship. If you’re not Jewish and want to send your well wishes to people who celebrate, the typical greeting is, “Have an easy fast.”

The govt needs a fast (and repentance)

(CNN Mon. 9/25/23) …government funding to run out in six days, a bipartisan (meaning evil) House caucus “leaders” said “all options are on the table” to avert a looming shutdown (BOOOO, SHUT IT DOWN!). The House returns Tuesday voting on yearlong spending bills, but federal departments and agencies have already begun the mandatory process of planning to bring nonessential functions to a halt. Should Congress fail to pass a short-term spending bill, a shutdown could have enormous impacts on all Americans — including nearly 4 million federal employees who will feel the effect immediately. “Essential” workers will remain on the job, but others will be furloughed until the shutdown is over. None will be paid during the impasse.

Take a break from the China Virus

(CNN & theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) US households can order up to four free Covid-19 tests from the government starting today. Available online: Covidtests.gov or covid.gov/tests (may even work better than that glitchy Obamacare website) as part of a relaunched program to provide free home tests to “Americans.” The program was suspended in May after the end of the public health emergency to preserve the US stockpile.

The relaunch comes as Covid-19 hospitalizations have been on the rise in the country for months, with weekly admissions now more than triple what they were two months ago (I think they’re tested even if they’re there for something else). Last week, a White House official acknowledged increased infections and hospital admissions nationally but noted that levels remain substantially lower than during past Covid surges.

Taylor Swift cheers on NFL tight end Travis Kelce at Chiefs game

(CNN Mon. 9/25/23) Following weeks of dating speculation, the pop star was seen celebrating in Travis Kelce’s family suite at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday.

(He’s the guy who did a China Virus vaxx commercial: Get both your flu shot and your china virus shot at the same time! Or neither if you have concerns… SMH)

Usher will headline the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show

(CNN & theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Grammy-winning R&B singer Usher will take to the field at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on February 11, 2024. “Yeah!”

Space is REAL, guys

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) A long-awaited asteroid sample that landed in the Utah desert on Sunday weighed just 9 ounces (just over half a pound, just over a quarter kilogram). A NASA spacecraft helped to deliver the space rock from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu, which may be on an eventual collision course with our planet, scientists say. It’s the first time NASA has accomplished such a feat.

HAKE NEWS, Hr 2 | Mon. 9-25-23

  • Tropical Storm Ophelia headed for the east coast!  //  Megan Rapino retiring, started soccer in 2006  //  White House starts Office of Gun Violence Prevention  //  Is Bob Menendez corrupt? DOJ indicted him and wife for accepting bribes, allegedly(?)  //  Armenians fleeing Azerbaijanis in disputed region (incomplete report from Hake)  //

Tropical Storm Ophelia (nice, a woman’s name again)

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Ophelia, now a post-tropical cyclone, dumped heavy rainfall across parts of the mid-Atlantic on Sunday. Forecasters say the storm is weakening as it treks up the East Coast, but may still bring more rain to areas that were drenched over the weekend. The Weather Prediction Center warned of localized flash floods, with “urban areas, roads, and small streams the most vulnerable.” Over the weekend, New Yorkers who live in basement apartments in flood-prone areas were told to prepare to move to higher ground and avoid driving on flooded streets or entering flooded subway stations. States of emergency were also declared in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland

Megan Rapino’s retiring…

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) QUOTE: “...such an honor to … live out my childhood dream casually(?) in front of the world.” — Soccer star Megan Rapinoe, after the final match of her international career on Sunday. Rapinoe left a winner after the US Women’s National Team defeated South Africa 2-0 in Chicago. Since making her debut in 2006(!), Rapinoe has scored 63 goals and made 73 assists (hmm…) — ranking in the top 10 for both categories in US women’s team history.

Now she should retire her MOUTH! (and her radical “LESBIAN”-ism, no such thing)

Anti-2A “White House”

(theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) The Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Over the weekend, President Biden unveiled this office that aims to reduce the epidemic of “gun violence” in the US. VP Kamala Harris will oversee the new office, which will “centralize, accelerate and intensify” the admin’s push to curb “gun violence.” The “White House” said the office will work to implement Biden’s executive orders on “gun violence,” which include more background checks. Biden called the move “the first steps toward what is needed.” CORRUPT JOE BIDEN!

Is Bob Menendez “corrupt”?

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) They’re going after Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ). Over the weekend, federal prosecutors indicted the three-term senator and his wife on bribery charges. The Justice Dept alleged Menendez used his role as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to sign off on an arms deal and hand over sensitive government information in exchange for gold bars, around $500,000 in cash, a luxury car, and more. Menendez has called the allegations “baseless.” Now, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle — including the NJ delegation — are calling on Menendez to give up his seat with 2024 just around the corner. This is reportedly the third time that Menendez has been investigated and appears to be the first sitting senator in US history to be indicted on two different criminal allegations.

Armenians fleeing the Azerbaijanis

(theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Tensions rising in Nagorno-Karabakh. Yesterday, hundreds of ethnic Armenians fled the disputed region to nearby Armenia days after Azerbaijan launched an offensive to reclaim the territory. It ended in a ceasefire. The two countries have been disputing over the region — internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan — since the late 1980s. Now, ethnic Armenians say thousands are in the area without food or water, and their only option is to flee. Azerbaijan said it wants to reintegrate the Armenians as “equal citizens,” but many fear ethnic cleansing is next. Armenia said it’s prepared to welcome 40,000 families.

NOT READ: Speaking of running

(theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Congrats, Tigst Assefa. Yesterday, the Ethiopian runner broke the women’s marathon world record by more than two minutes in Berlin. Assefa won last year’s Berlin Marathon as well. Going for gold.

NOT READ: Don’t do it, Pete! RUN!

(theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Who might be banking on a new love... Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline.

SKIP: Ukraine propaganda

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) Russian strikes overnight caused “significant damage” to Ukraine’s port city of Odesa as Moscow continues to target the country’s grain export infrastructure. In response, Poland has prepared routes for Ukrainian grain to move through its territory and reach countries most in need. Meanwhile, the Kremlin is weighing what to do with the Russian mercenary group Wagner now that its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is dead. Most security experts doubt that Wagner can survive without Prigozhin, posing significant questions about what will happen to the group’s fighters, weapons and operations.

SKIP: Hollywood strikes, LAAAAME

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 9/25/23) The major film and television studios and striking writers reached a tentative agreement on Sunday, paving a path forward to end the strike that has frozen most Hollywood productions since May. A tentative agreement would still need to be ratified by members of the Writers Guild of America, which represents more than 11,000 writers. The terms of the agreement were not immediately known, but if passed, a deal would mark the end of a nearly five-month-long work stoppage — the second-longest strike in the union’s history. Separately, SAG-AFTRA, the actors union representing about 160,000 actors, has also been on strike since mid-July and remains at the negotiating table.

Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Hollywood studios are writing a new script

Since May, more than 11,000 writers have been striking against major Hollywood studios. They’ve demanded better pay, increased residuals, and protections against AI when creating scripts. Many writers say they’ve had to work longer hours for lower wages. Lasting 146 days, it was the second-longest strike in the union’s history. It gained support from celebrities and other unions across the country. Now, after a marathon of negotiations over five days, Hollywood’s writers and studios have reached a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract.

It’s still not clear what the writers and studios have agreed to. As the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers put it, the tentative deal is “subject to drafting final contract language.” WGA told its members to not return to work “until specifically authorized” and that they are still technically on strike. They just won’t be hitting the picket lines for now. The union’s members have to vote to ratify the deal in the coming days. The WGA called it “exceptional” and said it includes “meaningful gains and protections.”

The writers and actors strikes hit Hollywood this year, upending the entertainment industry and costing California’s economy $5 billion. And with the writers' strike potentially coming to a wrap, Hollywood studios can now turn their attention to the actors' union.
