(CNN or theSkimm Fri. 9/22/23) 92yo Rupert Murdoch is retiring after nearly 70 years? Australian-born media magnate launched Fox News in 1996 — America's most-watched cable network (1 million daily viewers — but people are pulling away from cable news).
He’s also stepping down at News Corp., which owns The RINO Wall Street Journal and the sleazy liberal but sometimes centrist New York Post. But he’ll be “chairman emeritus” — honorary chairman.
Next in line is his eldest son Lachlan — but Rupert has five other children. Lachlan thanked his dad for “his pioneering spirit… determination, and … enduring legacy” — that last part’s debatable, fake news if you ask me.
This year Fox settled a fake defamation lawsuit against evil liberal Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million and lost (fired) their top dog, Tucker Carlson.
Ukraine war welfare
(CNN or theSkimm Fri. 9/22/23) Zelensky went and got another few hundred million out of the “white house” in war welfare (“support package”) — his second time visiting the Swamp (DC). So far, Congress has approved about $113 billion in aid to Ukraine — dwarfing any other individual country’s donations — and Zelensky wants $24 billion more (it’s a sticking point b/c Congress is divided over it). Unfortunately in case of government shutdown (next week) it won’t stop training and support of Ukrainian forces, per the black-run Pentagon.
Hordes of illegals pouring in endlessly and it’s getting worse
(CNN Fri. 9/22/23) The number of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border is likely to keep growing, analysts tell CNN, as officials grapple with an overwhelming number of asylum seekers at the southern border. Data from the Panamanian government shows the number of migrants making the perilous crossing through the Darien Gap is on the rise. Many of those migrants are from Venezuela, where a socioeconomic crisis — fueled by President Nicolás Maduro’s authoritarian government and worsened by the global pandemic and US sanctions — has led one in four Venezuelans to flee the country since 2015. In response, President Biden announced Wednesday the expansion of a form of humanitarian relief to Venezuelans already in the US, making hundreds of thousands more people eligible for work permits.
NY bus crash
(CNN or theSkimm Fri. 9/22/23) Two adults were killed and several students were injured after their bus “tumbled down a 50-foot ravine” Thursday on Interstate 84 in Orange County, New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul said. The commercial bus was carrying 40 students and four adults from Farmingdale High School to a band camp event. With the help of first responders, the students were removed from the bus and brought to safety within 45 minutes, the governor added. “Preliminary information indicates a failure of a front tire may have been a contributing factor to this accident,” said Lt. Colonel Richard L. Mazzone of the New York State Police. A probe into the crash remains ongoing.

(CNN Fri. 9/22/23) Same-sex marriage is banned on the Navajo Nation. That could change soon. So-called LGBTQ couples live in the US but can’t get “married” (they can, just not to each other). Many Navajos and radicals hope so-called “marriage equality” (NO SUCH THING) could be on the horizon.

In India, women make up nearly half of the country’s 950 million registered voters but only 15% of lawmakers in parliament and 10% in state assemblies. SMH

Yesterday, she sued her soon-to-be-ex-husband 34yo American singer-songwriter Joe Jonas (of Jonas Brothers) to return HIS two daughters to England. She alleges he’s holding onto the girls’ passports and said that there were already plans in place to move HIS daughters to England. A rep for Joe Jonas has called Sophie Turner’s allegations “misleading” and designed to move divorce proceedings to the evil UK. They also said since the divorce proceedings are happening in Florida, relocating the kids (as in children) would violate a court order.

January 16, Martin Luther King Day;
April 22, the first day of National Park Week;
August 4, marking the anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act.
September 23 to recognize National Public Lands Day.
November 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
There are 109 national parks that charge an entrance fee, according to NPS. That includes some of the most popular parks, like Zion, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, Olympic, Lake Mead, Hawai’i Volcanoes, the Grand Canyon, Denali, and the Everglades.
Medical bills can’t count against your credit score

White House officials on Thursday said they are pursuing the effort to lessen Americans’ medical debt burden as millions of people contend with the higher cost of living and historic inflation. Medical debt has lowered people’s credit scores, which affects their ability to buy a home, get a mortgage or own a small business, Vice President Kamala Harris said in a call with reporters announcing the initiative. If the rule is finalized, consumer credit companies would be barred from including medical debt and collection information on reports that creditors use to make underwriting decisions.

(theSkimm Fri. 9/22/23) The FDA. This week, independent advisers reportedly met to discuss the possibility of creating artificial wombs. The goal: give extremely premature babies a chance to survive. Preterm births are the top killer of children under 5, according to the WHO. The number of preterm births in the US was 10.5% as of 2021. The artificial wombs haven’t been tested in humans yet, but there’s been a few studies carried out on animals. As for now, the FDA is reportedly discussing what kind of data scientists would need to show during trials and the needed regulations.

India’s move is the latest in a series of tit-for-tat actions with Canada. It comes after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau accused India’s government agents of playing a role in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar: information Canadian officials now say came from surveilling Indian diplomats in the country.
