Hake notes from JLP…

JLP Hr 1  Nothing distinguishes you from other people! Experts talk about the question: How do you know if someone’s lying? Sean says using words is lying. There’s a way to tell. Experts also answer the new Biblical Question: What does it mean to go to God in fear and trembling? (Hassan left-out b/c he wasn’t in church!)  //  Hake does Super Chats from Friday…

JLP Hr 2  They’re doing everything they can to accommodate the criminals! … One party system. (Clips of people waking up and supporting Trump) … Great monologue: Don’t hold onto knowledge or wisdom. What would your life be if everything became unimportant to you, and nothing became important to you? What would I hold onto? Nothing. There's no one nor anything that’s that important — not even your own children. Your mind. The mind is a terrible thing to save! 7:20  Pro-Trump vid w/ Mexican song  //

Pete in Alaska on BQ, and Sean on lying.  //  Tony in CA talks polls, voting, he don’t vote for liars, so he don’t vote for Trump. But he voted for Biden. But he doesn’t vote for liars. Amazin’.  //  Adrian in NY is shocked people don’t like JLP. Darkness hates the light. She talks smoking, thinking, etc., nice call…

JLP Hr 3  Aaron in VA talks about spiritual stuff, sounds like a good call…. // John in GA (1st) asks about remembering, lying, etc. …

Spending but not giving

(CNN Mon. 12/4/23) Post-Thanksgiving greed and miserliness… Record-high spending figures from Black Friday and so-called Cyber Monday. Charitable giving, on the other hand, is at the lowest level in decades, according to data from so-called Giving Tuesday.

(But a lot of YOU guys and gals gave to BOND, UNLIKE the more worldly people.)

Santos Claus EXPELLED! Chin up, King!

(CNN & theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) QUOTE: “The truth will set me free.” — Republican former Rep. George Santos, sharing defiant remarks on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the House voted to expel him Friday SUPPOSEDLY over ethics violations ( series of scandals). Santos is only the sixth lawmaker ever to be ousted from the chamber. A competitive special election will be held in New York’s 3rd Congressional District to replace him… one less member in the meantime!

105 GOP lawmakers voted with nearly all Democrats to expel the third time around. 112 Republicans and two Dems voted against, with some saying it could set a dangerous precedent. R’s only a 3-vote majority face a hefty agenda.

Kathy Hochul (so-called Gov of NY) to announce a special election — after the new year. Democrats leaning toward former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D). Santos is the one who FLIIPPED the seat, and this is the thanks he gets, SM_H. House Democratic super PAC said they’ll “do whatever it takes” to win. BET THEY WILL. Santos became the third member since the Civil War to get booted.

Vermont shooting update

(theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) In Vermont: Hisham Awartani, one of the three Palestinian “American” students shot in Burlington last weekend, is paralyzed from the chest down (oof!). His mother said he has an “incomplete spinal injury” that allows him to feel but not move. She also said he is going into “intensive rehab.”

Israel-Palestine war drama

(CNN Mon. 12/4/23) Israel on Sunday said they killed a key Hamas commander responsible for the October 7 attacks that left around 1,200 Israelis dead and scores of others abducted. This comes as Israel has vowed to free the 137 hostages still being held by Hamas and eliminate the militant group around the world, even if it takes years. Additionally, new airstrikes are hitting Gaza, with Israel calling it a “fighting zone” and telling residents to “evacuate immediately.” The UN estimates up to 1.8 million people in Gaza — nearly 80% of the population — are internally displaced, having already had to leave their homes.

Spoiled inmates

(CNN Mon. 12/4/23) 5 states allow inmates to make free phone calls from correctional facilities. Massachusetts recently passed a law putting no limit to the number of calls each inmate can make to help them maintain bonds with their loved ones.

HAKE NEWS, Hr 2 | Mon. 12-4-23

  • COP28 Climate Summit President Sultan Al Jaber, a climate Fossil Fuel alarmist denier!  //  Spotify lays off 17% of staff, third round of firings this year, Daniel Ek CEo  //  Sandra Day O'Connor died at 96, first woman Supreme Court “Justice”  //  Indonesia volcano eruption kills 11+, dozen missing, stay away (Marapi), among 127 active volcanoes  //

This climate summit president, a ‘climate denier’!!

(CNN & theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) Climate scientists are outraged after the president of the COP28 climate summit, Sultan Al Jaber, recently claimed there is “no science” that says phasing out fossil fuels is necessary to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels (the Guardian reported it Sunday). (He also said phasing out fossil fuels doesn’t help sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves.”)

Not everyone agrees with him. Scientists called his comments “incredibly concerning.” Former US VP Al Gore reportedly pointed out that the UAE’s gas emissions are actually on the rise.

Scientific reports have shown that fossil fuels must be rapidly slashed to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees — a threshold above which scientists warn it will be more difficult for humans and ecosystems to adapt.

Al Jaber’s presidency of the COP28 summit has been quite controversial (WHICH USUALLY MEANS IT’S HALFWAY REASONABLE). The Emirati businessman is the UAE’s climate envoy and chairs the board of directors of its renewables company, but he also heads the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. (SOUNDS LIKE THEY’RE TRYING TO HINT HE HAS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST, LIKE THE IDIOT EVIL CLIMATE SCIENTISTS DON’T… THEY NEVER ADMIT THAT!)

As Dubai hosts the climate conference, some countries are pushing for the final agreement to have stronger language like “phase-out” of fossil fuels while others want “phase-down.” The conference ends on Dec 12.

More tech layoffs!

(theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) Jobs. Spotify just laid off 17% of its staff, about 1,500 jobs in the third round of layoffs this year. CEO Daniel Ek said the company “must be defined by being relentlessly resourceful in the ways we operate.”

RIP Sandra Day O'Connor (Irish?)

(theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) RIP Sandra Day O’Connor. Many are awaiting a date for the former Supreme Court justice’s funeral, after it was announced on Friday that she died at age 93 from issues related to her dementia. Hailing from Arizona, O’Connor grew up on her family's large ranch and went on to enroll at Stanford University at 16 years old. In 1981, O’Connor became the first woman to ever sit on the high court, serving as a justice for 25 years. She became known as a moderate conservative and a swing voter in many cases, including over affirmative action and abortion. In 1992, O’Connor was the fifth and critical vote against overturning Roe v. Wade. President Biden called her “an American icon.” Chief Justice John Roberts described her as a “fiercely independent defender of the rule of law.”

Indonesia Volcano eruption

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) Indonesia’s Marapi volcano erupted on Sunday, spewing volcanic ash thousands of feet into the air. Eleven climbers have died and another dozen are missing following the eruption, officials told CNN today. Cars, roads and entire villages nearby are blanketed in ash as evacuations remain underway. Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has 127 active volcanoes — more than anywhere else in the world — and Marapi is among the country’s most active. Authorities have raised the second-highest alert and barred all activities within two miles of the crater.

NOT READ: Big Pharma under attack (pray for them)

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) Back to court: Purdue Pharma. Today, the Supreme Court will hear arguments over the legality of Purdue Pharma’s $6 billion bankruptcy settlement. Last year, the company reached a deal to end thousands of lawsuits over its role in the country’s opioid epidemic. Purdue Pharma, which produces the highly addictive pain medication OxyContin, also put billions towards fighting the crisis. In exchange, the Sackler family (who own Purdue Pharma) would be protected from all future civil opioid lawsuits. The Justice Department is appealing that part of the deal. The Supreme Court’s ruling could have sweeping implications, determining the conditions for how other companies could file for bankruptcy and settle mass injury cases.

NOT READ: Prescription drug mess

(CNN or theSkimm Mon. 12/4/23) President Joe Biden is preparing a package of health care measures that he would aim to pass in a second term, with announcements starting this week centered on cutting prescription drug prices. The president’s proposed agenda includes expanding the provisions cutting prices for insulin and other drugs that were enacted for Medicare enrollees last year as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, and further strengthening the Affordable Care Act by making permanent the enhanced federal premium subsidies that have helped about 10 million people afford coverage on the Obamacare exchanges. The measures are a strong contrast to those of former President Donald Trump, who has promised to repeal and replace Obamacare entirely.
