Al Pacino copying that other beta DeNiro

TWEET: Hollywood actor Al Pacino, 83, and his 29-year-old partner Noor Alfallah are expecting a child. (CNN?)

There is hope for having kids in old age, I guess… [cringe]

Al Pacino, 83, is set to become a father again (CNN article)

Don’t blame Robert de Niro, he was born in sin!

(Wikipedia) Robert Anthony De Niro[2] was born in the Manhattan borough of New York City on August 17, 1943,[3] the only child of painters Virginia Holton Admiral and Robert Henry De Niro Sr.[4] His father was of Irish and Italian descent,[5] while his mother had Dutch, English, French, and German ancestry.[6] His parents, who had met at the painting classes of Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts, separated when he was two years old after his father announced that he was gay.[7] He was raised by his mother in the Greenwich Village and Little Italy neighborhoods of Manhattan. His father lived nearby, and remained close with De Niro during his childhood.[8] Nicknamed "Bobby Milk" because of his pale complexion, De Niro befriended many street kids in Little Italy, much to the disapproval of his father.[9] Some, however, have remained his lifelong friends.[10] His mother was raised Presbyterian but became an atheist as an adult, while his father had been a lapsed Catholic since the age of 12.[11][12] Against his parents' wishes, his grandparents had De Niro secretly baptized into the Catholic Church while he was staying with them during his parents' divorce.[12]

WOMEN FRUSTRATED WITH REALITY

(USATODAY) Al Pacino's news exposes a frustrating truth: Those who want to bear children face a biological clock, while their partners can wait decades longer.

ARTICLE: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and the male privilege of having kids whenever you want - by Hannah Yasharoff USA TODAY

At age 83, Al Pacino is about to have a baby with his 29-year-old girlfriend. Robert DeNiro, 79, recently welcomed his seventh child with a younger partner, too.

The actors are just two recent examples of older male celebrities having children with younger partners. And while those on the internet are debating the ethics of conceiving a child so late in life, their ages and age gaps with their partners also represent a frank truth that has long been felt by many: Women face a constantly ticking biological clock that impacts many facets of their lives, and men, simply, do not.

Pacino and DeNiro's recent headline-making announcements might sting for some, making this inequity harder to ignore, experts say.

"For women (who wish to become moms), there's that pressure to know sooner what they want (in life), compared to men who have longer to explore themselves or figure out what it is they want," says Meghan Gillen, a professor of psychology at Penn State Abington.

The privilege of not racing against a biological clock

Social media targets kids (Vivek Murthy)

(TheSkimm Wed. 5/24/23) The US has a new status update on the risks of social media.

Yesterday, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy sent a DM to the nation, saying social media poses a “profound risk of harm” to kids and teens’ well-being. For years, there’s been notification after notification about social media’s potential effects on mental health — especially among children and teens, whose brains are still developing and more vulnerable to social media’s addictive features. The report found that up to 95% of America’s teens have a social media account. More than a third of them say they’re double-tapping, posting, or streaming “almost constantly.” Now, Murthy said all this scrolling has contributed to depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem for most teens.

What'd he recommend? In his advisory, Murthy called on lawmakers, tech companies, and parents to put better safety standards in place to help protect kids. He encouraged lawmakers to set minimum age requirements on social media access — something Utah already plans on implementing — and to develop safeguards for issues like cyberbullying. It urged tech companies to investigate the impact of their products and design algorithms that prioritize health and safety. Murthy also called on families to create “tech-free zones” and report instances of cyberbullying or online harassment to their local law enforcement or child's school. The advisory is just a recommendation that doesn’t hold lawmakers or tech companies responsible for making changes.

theSkimm Researchers still don’t have a full-screen grasp on the harms of social media use on teen mental health. However, recent studies found that the risks may be outweighing the likes. Now, the surgeon general is saying it's time for platforms and lawmakers to put teens' health first.

Speaking of mama UVALDE 1yr: What people were remembering…

(TheSkimm Wed. 5/24/23) Uvalde, TX. Today marks one year since a gunman shot and killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. It was one of the worst shootings in Texas history and the second-deadliest school shooting in the US. Since the deadly massacre, parents are still waiting for officials and the district attorney to release their reports on why it took police 77 minutes to confront the attacker. As for gun laws in Texas, little has changed even as parents of the victims advocate. The state has seen at least 17 mass shootings so far this year. Meanwhile, one report found that state legislators across the country have passed more laws expanding gun access than gun control measures since the attack. A group supporting the families of the victims is holding a vigil in Uvalde today.

Hakeem Jeffries on Twitter: "We pause today to remember the victims of the horrific Uvalde mass shooting. And make clear we have a moral responsibility to do everything possible to end the gun violence epidemic in America." / Twitter

That 11yo black who was shot in the chest

FROM HAKE NEWS… (CNN Wed. 5/31/23) QUOTE: “I just tried to follow the police commands but I guess that didn’t work.” — Aderrien Murry, the 11-year-old boy who was shot in the chest less than two weeks ago by a Mississippi police officer after he called 911 for help. The boy said he prayed and sang in the moments after he was shot as his mother tried to stop the bleeding. Aderrien's family wants the officer fired, and is seeking restitution from the state.

Thanks, all!
