Military Aid
(CNN & MAINLY theSkimm Fri. 11/3/23) Yesterday, the House passed a $14.3 billion military aid package for Israel as the latest Israel-Hamas war continues. This comes in addition to the $3.8 billion the US gives annually to support Israel’s military and defense system — the largest amount of foreign aid the US consistently gives. This latest round allots $4 billion to Israel’s Iron Dome and other defense systems. Lawmakers on both sides said they’re focused on getting aid to Israel ASAP, but some Democrats have a different vision.
Dems want the military aid package to include funding for Ukraine, which the GOP is against. That's because House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) plans to introduce a separate measure for Ukraine that also addresses border security. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said the Senate would reject the House bill (a “deeply flawed proposal” THAT does not include aid to Ukraine and would enact funding cuts to the IRS.). Instead, Schumer said senators will put together their own aid package for Israel and include humanitarian aid for Gaza — something that's missing from the House's package.
The push to provide aid to Israel comes as the Biden admin is calling for a “humanitarian pause” in Gaza. The goal of the pause is to allow more aid to go through and potentially secure the release of the other hostages held by Hamas. However, President Biden has stopped short of calling for a cease-fire.

(CNN not theSkimm Fri. 11/3/23) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel today to press the Israeli government on its ongoing offensive in Gaza amid growing international condemnation and calls to minimize the civilian death toll. He will discuss, as he has done in past trips, the hostages held by Hamas and the prevention of a wider regional conflict.
Tyre Nichols case

Earlier this year, five [b]lack Memphis officers beat Nichols, a 29-year-old [b]lack ma[le], to death after a traffic stop. They all initially pleaded not guilty to state murder charges and were charged with federal civil rights violations. Now, one officer is pleading guilty to two of the four federal counts: excessive force and witness tampering. Prosecutors recommending 15 years in prison ….
Biden heads to Maine to mourn Lewiston shooting victims
(CNN not theSkimm Fri. 11/3/23) President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will travel to Lewiston, Maine, today to pay their respects after 18 people were killed there in a mass shooting last week.
NOT READ: The visit comes after authorities concluded a two-day manhunt for the suspect, who was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Biden has said that his administration would continue “to provide everything that is needed to support the people of Maine.”

Yet another commie union strike threat
(CNN or theSkimm Fri. 11/3/23) 35,000 non-workers are poised to strike next week across 18 casinos on the Las Vegas Strip if a new contract is not reached, the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 said. The unions are asking for better pay, reduced workload, and enhanced safety protections, among other things.

Authorities have said Shakur’s death is the result of gang rivalry. The night of Shakur’s death, the young rapper allegedly attacked Davis’ nephew. Authorities said that’s why Davis decided to retaliate. In a 2018 BET interview, he said that he was in the front seat of the car that fired shots at Shakur. As for what took 27 years to get to this point, police reportedly have said witnesses wouldn’t cooperate. Shakur’s legacy in the music industry still stands strong, selling more than 75 million records worldwide.

On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump were questioned separately about their knowledge of and involvement with the former president’s financial statements. They are accused of knowingly participating in a scheme to inflate their father’s net worth to obtain financial benefits like better loan and insurance policy terms. On the stand, Donald Trump Jr. repeatedly said he relied on his accountants and was not involved with the preparations of financial statements for his father, even though he signed them as a trustee of his trust.
